How Low-Acid Coffee Can Minimize Heartburn

by Alex Brecher February 22, 2023

It can be upsetting if you are a coffee-lover and you notice that coffee triggers heartburn for you, but you may be in luck. While regular coffee is high in acid, choosing low-acid coffee instead can help you lower your acid consumption. A brand such as Alex’s Low-Acid Organic Coffee is great-tasting, fresh, and a pure choice for cutting back on acid without cutting out coffee from your daily routine. Here’s how low-acid coffee can minimize heartburn.

    What Is Heartburn?

If you have had heartburn, you can probably quickly recognize the symptoms. Heartburn causes a burning and painful sensation in your chest. It feels like it is coming from your heart, but it is actually in your lower esophagus.

Heartburn is the result of acid from the stomach coming up into the lower esophagus. This is not supposed to happen, but it can happen when the ring-like muscle, called the lower esophageal sphincter (LES), relaxes when it is not supposed to. Instead of being tight and closing off the esophagus from the stomach, it loosens and allows stomach acid to come up to the esophagus. This is called acid reflux, and you feel heartburn when the acid touches the esophageal lining.

    Acidic Coffee and Heartburn

Some people say coffee is a trigger for heartburn. Many people believe a low-acid diet is the answer to heartburn. Coffee is a naturally acidic beverage, but there are ways to cut back on acid without cutting back on coffee.

Alex’s Low-Acid Organic Coffee is a low-acid brand that has less acidity than the average of national brands. It is gentle on the stomach, so you can drink it with confidence and not with fear that you will suffer the consequences later. Alex’s Low-Acid Organic Coffee is produced without coming into contact with steel drums that have the potential to increase acidity.

    Caffeine and Heartburn

Another concern with coffee and heartburn is the caffeine content. Caffeine increases acid production in the stomach and relaxes the LES. Those can both increase the risk of heartburn. If you think caffeine is a heartburn trigger for you, consider the Decaf or Half Caff versions of Alex’s Low-Acid Organic Coffee French Roast in Whole Bean, Fresh Ground, or K Cups.

Effect of Sweeteners and Creamers and Heartburn

There is something else to consider if you believe your coffee beverages are causing heartburn: other ingredients. For some people, artificial sweeteners, such as those in sugar substitutes and sugar-free flavoring syrups, can trigger acid reflux. For some people, cream, creamer, or milk in coffee can be a trigger. The best courses are to experiment to see what works for you, and to work with a healthcare provider.

Choosing a low-acid coffee can help reduce heartburn among coffee lovers. Alex’s Low-Acid Organic Coffee is a pure brand produced without a long list of synthetic and possible toxic chemicals. Instead, it is certified free from mold and mycotoxins, as well as heavy metals, and is absolutely delicious every time.
