Why Is Alex’s Acid Free Coffee the Best Low-Acid Coffee Brand?

There are a lot of coffee brands to choose from. How can you decide? If you need the best coffee for acid reflux, you’ll have to narrow your search to low acid coffee brands. And from those, the best low acid coffee is the one that tastes best, is freshest, and is best for the environment.

That may sound like a lot to think about, but the answer is clear. At least, it is to us! Here’s why Alex’s Low-Acid Organic Coffee is the best low acid coffee brand in our books.

Best-Tasting Beans

The best low acid coffee brands have to taste fabulous. Otherwise, what’s the point in drinking coffee? We are confident that Alex’s Low-Acid Organic Coffee tastes the best. We have carefully selected the beans we use from regions of the world that are known to produce great-tasting beans.

We haven’t just picked one region or farm to source Alex’s Low-Acid Organic Coffee. We have a blend of three types of beans from well-known places. Their geography and history combine to give these beans balanced flavors. Mixed together, we believe they make the best low acid coffee possible.

Here is where our coffee beans are from and their taste and other characteristics.

  • Chiapas (Mexico). Each of our low acidic coffee blends gets 50% of its beans from the Chiapas region in Mexico. This is in the south, near Guatemala. The beans are grown at altitude, in volcanic soil that is highly fertile. These beans are consistent and dependable so you always know that you’ll get a fine taste.
  • Nicaragua. Our blends get 25% of their beans from Nicaragua. Coffee beans from Nicaragua are also grown at altitude. The coffee has a smooth body, chocolate and citrus flavor and aroma, and a bright acidity to balance it out. These beans have grown in popularity in recent years.
  • Honduras. These beans comprise 25% of Alex’s Low-Acid Organic Coffee blends. They have a vanilla and hazelnut aroma, with a chocolatey and nutty flavor.

We believe that together, these coffee beans provide the perfect flavor and aroma balance, with a satisfying body and acidity, to make Alex’s Low-Acid Organic Coffee the best low acid coffee choice. We are confident that it’s the best tasting of any low acidity coffee brands.

All of the coffee beans used in Alex’s Low-Acid Organic Coffee are Arabica beans. They come from the Coffea arabica plant. Arabica beans are the most common in the world. Their flavor and the pleasure people get from drinking coffee made with them are two of the top reasons why they’re so popular. They’re widely cultivated in Latin America, where we source our beans for Alex’s Low-Acid Organic Coffee.

Once grown and harvested, coffee beans need to be processed. The fruit of the coffee tree are picked and the seeds, or coffee beans, are removed. The coffee beans are heated to roast them, which makes them safe to consume and improves the flavor. All varieties of Alex’s Low-Acid Organic coffee, including both Regular and Decaf and Whole Bean and Ground, are roasted to a French roast, or medium dark roast. This gives the coffee a more chocolatey flavor. In addition, the roasting reduces acidity in the coffee.

Fresh Is Best

Still, it doesn’t matter how good the coffee beans taste or what kind of quality they were when they started out, if they aren’t good when you use them. The best low acid coffee brands have perfectly fresh beans. That means they were processed quickly after harvesting, and are packaged in quality packaging.

Alex’s Low-Acid Organic Coffee is guaranteed to be fresh when you open the package. Our coffee beans are processed quickly and packaged in special packaging that keeps them fresh right up until you brew or grind them. That way, you can enjoy their flavor to the fullest.

Low Acidity

How do you get the coffee with the lowest acidity? Alex’s Low-Acid Organic Coffee is specially produced and processed to yield a low acid coffee. To produce coffee with lowest acidity, we are careful to use a special convection process for roasting the beans. The coffee beans never come into contact with hot metal, and that helps prevent them from becoming more acidic than necessary.

We’re sure that our production and processing methods for Alex’s Low-Acid Organic Coffee are working. That’s because we sent our coffee to an independent third-party lab for testing. The lab tested the acidity of Alex’s Low-Acid Organic Coffee and also the acidity of national coffee brands, such as Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts, Trader Joes, and more.

The lab found that Alex’s Low-Acid Organic Coffee is a less acidic coffee.

  • The total acidity of Alex’s Low-Acid Organic Coffee was lower than the average acidity of the other brands. The pH of Alex’s Low-Acid Organic Coffee was higher than the average pH of the other brands, meaning it was less acidic.
  • The chlorogenic acid content of Alex’s Low-Acid Organic Coffee was lower than the average of the chlorogenic acid content of the other brands. Chlorogenic acid is the main acid type in coffee that contributes to its total acidity. There are a few different forms of chlorogenic acid in coffee, and this analysis looked at all of them.

When an independent lab says the coffee is lower in acidity, you can trust that claim.

Best Coffee for Acid Reflux and More

There’s no question that coffee has a reputation of being bad for acid reflux. Many people with gastroesophageal reflux disease, or GERD, believe that their favorite coffee brands cause more symptoms. There are other conditions that may have you looking for a less acidic coffee, too.

Heartburn is one of the most common symptoms of acid reflux. It causes a burning or painful sensation in the chest, near the level of the heart. The cause of the pain is from acid from the stomach coming up through the lower esophageal sphincter, or LES. That’s the muscle that normally closes off the stomach from the lower esophagus. The LES should be able to close tightly when you’re not eating or drinking. But if it weakens, it can open slightly and allow stomach acid to come up from the stomach. That is painful!

The acidity of coffee is usually blamed for acid reflux after drinking coffee, and leading coffee brands can have high acidity. Switching to a less acidic coffee may be a no-brainer if you have acid reflux.

If you have GERD, acid reflux, or heartburn, you might be interested in the coffee with the lowest acidity or a non acidic coffee. Alex’s Low-Acid Organic Coffee is produced with you in mind. It has a lower acid content than many other coffee brands.

There are other conditions that can lead a healthcare provider to tell you to stop drinking coffee from major coffee brands due to the acidity. These are a few.

  • Weight loss surgery patients. Bariatric surgery patients may need to avoid coffee and acidic foods after surgery to allow their surgery wounds to heal. Plus, bariatric surgery patients may be more susceptible to acid reflux after surgery.
  • Patients with ulcers. Ulcers in the stomach are open wounds that can be painful. The pain can increase when it is exposed to acidic foods and beverages, such as coffee, peppermint, tomatoes, and citrus foods. Many healthcare providers may suggest avoiding acidic foods and beverages, including acidic coffee.
  • Patients with Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis. While it’s not always clear exactly what causes ulcerative colitis, avoiding acidic foods is sometimes recommended for Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis.

If you do have acid reflux, GERD, or regular heartburn, it’s best to talk to your doctor about acid free coffee and which low acid coffee brands may be the best coffee for acid reflux. You can also ask your doctor, bariatric surgeon, or other healthcare provider about a low acidic coffee so you can keep drinking coffee despite your condition. You should always talk to your doctor about any health concerns, including whether a less acidic coffee may help.
