This coffee beverage rivals or beats one that you might find in a coffee shop, and it’s so easy. It is sweet, creamy, and delicious. Use good ingredients like your favorite caramel sauce and Alex’s Low-Acid Organic Coffee to make sure it comes out just the way you like it. This recipe makes two generous servings so you can share it with a friend, but you can cut it in half if it’s just for you.
You can use whichever type of milk you prefer. It may be creamiest with whole milk or oat milk, but you can use skim milk to reduce the fat content or choose soy milk, almond milk, or coconut milk. The heavy cream stirred in with the milk is optional, but it does certainly make your drinks taste more decadent!
The caramel that you use is up to you. You can use any type of caramel topping or caramel-flavored syrup. Sugar-free options work great, too! You can also try your hand at melting caramel candies and using those as your caramel option, or even making your own caramel with butter and brown sugar.
With a decadent, smooth drink like this, it’s nice to have an intense and complex coffee flavor to balance out the sweetness of the caramel and the creaminess of the milk and cream. Alex’s Low-Acid Organic Coffee can offer that taste without being bitter, since it is low in acid. You can brew it nice and strong to make sure you add that layer of complexity with notes of chocolate and hazelnuts that are super subtle but an amazing addition.
As a topping, whipped cream can’t be beat. Whether you whip your own heavy cream, use a pressurized can, or select a non-dairy substitute such as one based on almond or coconut, you have to come out a winner.
It’s nice to have a hot coffee beverage in the fall and winter months, but if you’re more of an iced coffee fan, you can adopt this recipe. Just add some ice cubes to the glasses before adding the coffee and milk mixture, and cool the coffee and milk mixture before pouring them over the ice cubes.
