    The Benefits of Drinking Coffee

    The Benefits of Drinking Coffee

by Alex Brecher July 06, 2022

Millions of Americans depend on coffee daily, or even multiple times a day. It tastes and smells great, and can be a comforting ritual. It may also help wake you up in the morning, or get you through an afternoon slump. And it’s definitely a great choice if you want to have some social time with friends.

But there are more benefits to drinking coffee. Some are due to the caffeine content, but there are other helpful compounds in coffee, too. And if acid has been a problem for you, consider switching to a low-acid coffee such as Alex’s Low-Acid Organic Coffee.

  • Weight control
  • When you drink coffee, you can feel your heart rate increase. That’s a sign that your metabolism is increasing, or you are burning more calories. Coffee can also help burn more fat, and that’s also good for weight control.

If you’re drinking coffee and are trying to manage your weight, be aware of what you may be adding to your coffee. Sugar, syrups, cream, and milk all add calories and can get in the way of weight loss benefits if you’re not careful. A smooth, low-acid coffee such as Alex’s Low-Acid Organic Coffee is less bitter and may need less added sugar or cream than another brand.

  • Lower type 2 diabetes risk
  • People who drink more coffee tend to have a lower risk of developing type 2 diabetes. It may be related to increased insulin sensitivity, which can help regulate blood sugar. Chlorogenic acid in coffee, along with antioxidants, may contribute to this effect.

  • Lower risk of heart disease
  • Coffee consumption has been associated with a lower risk for heart disease. Reasons may be lower blood sugar and blood pressure. It also lowers risk for stroke. Coffee also has anti-inflammatory compounds, such as diterpenes, that can lower risk for chronic conditions.

Be careful, though—too much caffeine can lead to higher blood pressure. If you have any risk factors for heart disease, it’s best to talk to your doctor about them and coffee consumption.

  • Improve focus
  • Most people who drink caffeinated coffee know that it can fight drowsiness. With that can come improved focus, better memory, and better learning. That can be helpful if you are studying for an exam, or if you have demanding work deadlines. Better focus can also help if you are multitasking, such as watching young children while taking care of household chores. You need to be at your best, and caffeine can give your brain a needed boost.

  • Reduce reaction time
  • You probably know that caffeine can make you more alert, but did you know that it also includes reducing your reaction time? That can be important, and not just for athletes who are trying to start a 100-meter dash as quickly as possible when the starting gun goes off. A quicker reaction time can be life-saving when driving a car. When you can react to a situation split second faster, you can potentially avoid a tragic accident.

  • Lower risk for cognitive decline
  • Caffeine supports your brain in the long-term, and not just over a few hours. People who drink coffee may have a lower risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinsons as they age. The benefits seem to be related to caffeine content, so if you’re looking for a low-acid coffee for brain health, Alex’s Low-Acid Organic French Roast or Rise and Shine may be your best bets.

  • Boost mood
  • It’s possible that you feel happier after drinking coffee. Is it because of the great taste? Is it because you drank it while doing something you love, such as chatting with a friend? Is it because it woke you up? It could be all of those.

But it may also be because of its effect on the brain. In people who are sleep-deprived, coffee can improve your mood. Plus, coffee drinkers are less likely to have depression.

  • Lower the risk for early death
  • There are certainly no guarantees in life, but there is evidence that coffee can lower your risk of an early death. Coffee drinkers are less likely to die early from heart disease, stroke, respiratory conditions, accidents and injuries, and diabetes. Compounds in coffee that may help have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. To get the full benefits, you’ll want to avoid unhealthy habits, such as smoking or eating too many high-calorie foods, as these things can go hand-in-hand with coffee drinking for some people.

  • Fits into a low-acid diet.
  • Are you on a low-acid diet due to a condition such as GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease), with frequent acid reflux and heartburn? Do you find that coffee just doesn’t agree with you anymore?

Well, coffee is an acidic beverage. If you’ve been noticing that the acid in coffee bothers you, a low-acid brand may be better for you. Alex’s Low-Acid Organic Coffee is a reduced-acid coffee with elevated pH. That means it has less acid than any traditional coffee. Along with the many health benefits of being lower in acid, Alex’s Low-Acid Organic Coffee has less of a sour or acidic taste than other coffees.

  • Comes in caffeinated, decaffeinated, and half-caff options.
  • Caffeine can be healthy, but there’s a time and a place for caffeine. It’s best to have no more than around 400 mg per day. That’s why it’s good to be able to enjoy your coffee with as much or little caffeine as you want. There are other helpful compounds in coffee, such as antioxidants and lignans, that can also provide certain benefits even if you limit caffeine consumption.

Alex’s Low-Acid Organic Coffee comes in Regular, Decaffeinated, and Half-Caff versions. You can have it in the morning, before bed, or anytime in between. They’re made from organic, high-quality coffee beans sourced from around the world, and delivered lovingly to you in your cup each morning.
