Over 30 percent of coffee drinkers experience heartburn, reflux, or stomach discomfort after coffee. Many assume acidity or pH is the cause, but that is not the full story. Coffee naturally contains many acids that add to its flavor and aroma, but one compound in particular, Chlorogenic Acid, especially CQA 3, 4, and 5, has been linked to irritation and bitterness. These levels can rise significantly during traditional drum roasting.
Most roasters use drum roasters where beans come into contact with hot metal. We do things differently. Our patented convection roasting system uses a bed of hot air, so the beans never come into contact with steel. Alex's Low Acid Organic Whole Bean French Roast Coffee contains this blend of 100 percent USDA Organic coffee beans:
- 50 percent Chiapas grown in southern Mexico near the Guatemalan border. These beans share the same volcanic soil and high altitude qualities as Guatemalan coffees. They are mild and delicate with sweet notes of brown sugar and pear and a nutty finish.
- 25 percent Nicaragua balanced and smooth with subtle complexity and flavors of chocolate, nuts, vanilla, and a hint of lemon.
- 25 percent Honduras mild, rounded, and universally appealing with notes of chocolate, vanilla, and hazelnut.
